Lt. Governor Sheila Simon and ICADV
In October 2013, all high schools throughout the state were encouraged to invite their students to submit a video that called for the end of teen dating violence and promoted healthy relationships.
This competition, which was sponsored by Verizon, was the first of its kind in Illinois and coordinated by the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) and the office of Lt. Governor Sheila Simon.
We received a very enthusiastic response from teens throughout the state which indicates this type of project can help raise awareness of the issue and provides teens with a fun and exciting way to use technology to help others learn about and speak out against dating violence.
ICADV is thrilled to be working with Lt. Governor Simon and grateful to Verizon to help get these teens involved.
For more than a decade, Verizon, through its various business units and its philanthropic foundation, has been a champion of ending domestic violence. Verizon supports a broad range of programs that include: training health care practitioners and first responders about screening for signs of abuse; engaging men as role models and advocates for prevention;
educating teens about preventing dating violence; and providing resources for domestic prevention organizations and survivors.
